At least half of his collection was never on view, because as a serious and focused locomotive and trolley conservator, he stacked hundreds of standard gauge cars and accessories in the attic, where they waited patiently for us to liberate them. Trust us - the contents of that attic would make a pretty exciting auction all by itself. The closets were another revelation. We innocently walked into one which contained over a hundred locomotives and trolleys, all neatly displayed on shelves. The Indig collection speaks of a collecting philosophy that really no longer exists. Investment strategy and profit motive were not the focus here. Appreciation for the ancient, obscure and mechanically intriguing are obvious. Variation and variety expanded his horizons. Condition was secondary. Knowledge was power.
